The VIN Lookup page gives you a complete history of a vehicle at your shop, looked up by its VIN. Because it is keyed on the vehicle's VIN rather than on a single customer, Manifold gathers everything your shop has recorded for that vehicle, even if the vehicle has changed owners over time. That is what makes it different from a vehicle's own page, which shows one customer's record of one car.

**Finding it**

Open **Service** in the sidebar and choose **VIN Lookup**. Type or paste the full VIN and click "Look Up History".

If you have used this page before, it used to live under Wholesale. It moved because nothing it shows is dealer-specific: a used car coming back under a new owner is an everyday question for any shop. The old link still works and will bring you to the new page.

**What it shows**

When a match is found, the page lists everything tied to that VIN at your shop

  • **Vehicle details**: year, make, model, trim, color, VIN, and license plate.
  • **Decoded from VIN**: what the vehicle actually is according to the national vehicle database, including engine, body style, door count, fuel type and assembly plant. If the VIN does not decode cleanly, the page says so, because a mistyped VIN can still return confident-looking details for a different car.
  • **Owners**: every customer who has had the vehicle on file, past and present, with their contact details.
  • **Invoices**: every invoice for the vehicle, with the customer or dealer, linked work order, total, and status.
  • **Work orders**: every work order, including any that were never attached to an invoice.
  • **Appointments**: every scheduled installation or consultation for the vehicle.
  • **Installed serialized components**: any serialized parts installed on the vehicle, with their serial numbers and the invoice they were sold on.

**Looking a car up from your phone**

If you are standing at the vehicle rather than at a desk, use the VIN Scan tile on the phone instead: photograph the VIN plate and it will read the characters for you and show the same "have we seen this car" answer. See "VIN Scan: look up any vehicle from your phone".

**Notes**

VIN Lookup covers vehicles at your shop only. A vehicle appears once it has been recorded with that exact VIN, so a missing or mistyped VIN will not match. The page is part of the Service module and needs permission to view customers.
