When your shop is in "I use an external card processor" mode under Settings > Payments, Manifold treats card transactions as something that happened outside the POS. You run the card on your existing terminal (or your processor's web portal); when it approves, you come back to the invoice in Manifold and record the payment.

What Manifold captures for each card payment

  • The payment method (Credit Card), amount, and date - same as any payment.
  • Optionally: Card brand (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover), Card last 4 digits, and Auth code from your processor. None required.
  • Automatically: your processor name (the value you selected at Settings > Payments) is stamped onto the payment as its source. You do not retype it per payment.

Where it shows up

  • On the printed and emailed invoice receipt, the payment row reads "Credit Card (Visa ●●●●1234) via Square" with the Auth code in the Reference column.
  • On the Payments list page (the top-level Payments page in the sidebar), there is a new Processor column and a Source filter so you can pull only your Square card payments, only your Stripe card payments, etc.
  • On the Payments by Method report, a second table "Reconciliation by Processor" appears that breaks Credit Card totals down by source and processor name, so you can match each line to the corresponding processor's daily settlement statement.

If you ever change processors (or move from External to a future integrated mode), historical payment rows keep their original processor name; only new payments pick up the new value.
