This article is about a sale in the promotion sense: a percentage off for a period, which Manifold applies to invoice lines while it runs. If you meant a sale as a transaction you rang up, see How to Create an Invoice and the salesperson reports instead.
A sale takes a percentage off part of your catalogue between two dates. While it runs, every new invoice or estimate line is priced at the sale price, and that price stays on the line afterwards even once the sale has ended.
Go to Point of Sale > Sales. The section is owner-only until you hand someone else the "Create & manage sales" permission.
**Setting one up**
Click + New Sale and fill in
- Name. Staff see it on the line, and it prints on the customer's copy.
- Percent off.
- Runs: a start date and an end date. Both days count, on your shop's clock.
**What is on sale**
Two lists, Categories and Brands. A product is on sale when it matches both. Tick Speakers and Rockford Fosgate and only Rockford speakers are on sale. Leave a list empty to mean all of them, and leave both empty for a sale on the whole store. Ticking a category includes the child categories under it.
**Except**
Anything ticked in the Except section stays at full price, even when the lists above cover it. Use it to hold one brand or one category out of a sale that would otherwise include it. To hold back individual products instead, untick them on What It Covers (below).
**Options**
- Discount labor as well as products. Off by default.
- Apply to dealer invoices. Off by default, since dealers already buy at dealer pricing. With it on, the sale comes off the dealer price.
- Offer this sale on invoices and estimates already in progress. See "Applying a Sale to a Job Already in Progress".
- Do not combine this sale with other sales. See "How Overlapping Sales Combine".
- Switched on. Untick to park a sale without losing its dates.
**Check what it covers before it runs**
Saving a sale lands you on What It Covers: every product the sale reaches, with its normal price beside its sale price. The Sales list shows the same figure in the Products column, and you can open it from there any time. If a sale covers nothing, that screen says so: remember a product has to match both lists at once.
Each product on What It Covers has an In Sale checkbox, ticked to start with. Untick a product to leave it out of this sale. It saves as you click, and other sales can still discount that product. A product you untick stays on the list, greyed out and marked "left out", so you can tick it back in later. Click Show only those to see just the products you have left out. The Sales list shows how many each sale leaves out under its product count. Products that join the sale's brands or categories later are included automatically.
**While it runs**
A product added to an invoice or estimate comes in at the sale price. The line shows what it would have cost struck through and names the sale that did it. The invoice page and the printed and emailed copy show "You saved" under the total.
**Ending one**
A sale ends on its own at the end of its last day. To stop one early, click Switch off on the Sales list. It stops applying straight away, and the dates it actually ran on are left alone. Prices already on invoices never move: what a customer was quoted stands.
**Two things a sale will not touch**
- A product with "Never put this product on sale" ticked on the product itself. Use it for anything you are not allowed to discount.
- Warranty documents and refunds, since neither charges the customer anything.
A sale may price a product below its Minimum Sell Price. The minimum governs what staff may do at the counter; the sale is your decision.
