Pay by link lets you text or email a customer a link to pay an invoice, and lets customers pay a deposit when they approve an estimate online. It runs on a second device on your Manifold Pay merchant account, called a Virtual Terminal, separate from your counter terminal.

Before you start, your counter terminal must already be connected (see "Manifold Pay: connecting your card terminal"). Pay by link reuses its APP ID. Only owners and store managers can do this.

  1. In your Valor portal, find the Virtual Terminal. Under Device Management it is the row whose Device Type is Virtual Terminal; under Settings > API Keys the same row has its own APP Key. Its EPI is different from your counter terminal's, and your counter terminal's key will not work for it.
  2. In Manifold, go to Settings > Payments. In the Manifold Pay connection section, find "Pay by link (text to pay / email to pay)".
  3. Enter the Virtual Terminal EPI and the Virtual Terminal APP Key and click "Connect pay by link". Manifold checks the key by creating a $1.00 test payment page and canceling it at once. Nobody is charged.

Once connected, "Pay by link" appears on the invoice screen when Manifold Pay is the payment method, and Deposit required can be turned on under Settings > Invoicing > Customer Approval.

Paid links are recorded on the invoice automatically, within about five minutes. You never need to record them by hand.

Faster confirmation (recommended) Set up Automatic payment confirmation so your processor tells Manifold the moment a payment goes through, usually within a minute or two.

  1. Copy the URL shown under Automatic payment confirmation on Settings > Payments.
  2. In your Valor portal, go to Settings > WebHook and switch WebHook Details on. If there is no WebHook tab, or it will not switch on, ask your payments provider to enable webhooks for your merchant account.
  3. Paste the URL into WebHook Url and turn Authentication on. Under Transaction, select Approved and Authcapture. Click Update.
  4. Copy the signing secret the portal gives you, paste it into "Webhook signing secret" in Manifold, and click "Save webhook secret". The section now reads On.

To turn pay by link off, click "Disconnect pay by link". Your counter terminal is not affected. Disconnecting the counter terminal also turns pay by link off; connect both again afterwards.
