The Settings > Payments page asks one top-level question: how do you take card payments? Pick one of four options.
- I use an external card processor (record references manually). Pick this if you keep using your current processor and terminal (Square, Stripe, PayPal, a leased Verifone, etc.). Manifold will not try to charge cards itself. When you pick this, a second section asks which processor you use (pick from the list or type "Other"), whether you use a physical terminal in the shop, and whether your processor sends a Pay Now link separately. None of those answers is required, but they let Manifold tailor the Record Payment row, receipts, and reports to your setup.
- I use Authorize.net (connect mine for integrated charging). Available in Phase 1.5. Lets you paste your existing Authorize.net credentials so Manifold can charge cards directly from the invoice page, save cards on file, and process voids and refunds without leaving the POS. Shown as "Coming soon" today.
- I use Manifold Pay (integrated, recommended). Available in Phase 2. Our built-in payment processing with Pay Now links, text-to-pay, saved cards, an in-browser terminal, and automatic reconciliation. Shown as "Coming soon" today.
- I do not accept cards. Manifold continues to handle cash, check, and other non-card payment methods.
Whichever option you choose, the Settings > Payments step on the setup checklist flips to Done as soon as you save. You can change your answer at any time; previously recorded payments are not affected.
The decision controls what Manifold offers on the invoice page. External mode surfaces optional Card brand / last 4 / Auth code fields when you pick Credit Card on the Record Payment row, so end-of-day reconciliation against your processor's statement stays clean.
