@Mentions are how you ping a specific teammate in the shop channel. They appear as a purple chip in the message and send a notification to the person you mentioned.
To mention someone
- Type @ followed by their first name (for example, @sam). A typeahead popup appears with matching staff.
- Click a name (or press Enter on the highlighted one) to insert the mention. The popup closes and @sam appears in your message.
- If two teammates share a first name, the typeahead inserts the first.last form instead (for example, @sam.kelly) so the server knows which person you mean.
- Send the message normally. The mention renders as a purple chip in everyone's view of it.
Mentions are not case-sensitive. You cannot mention yourself; self-mentions are ignored.
What happens when you mention someone
- A row appears in their bell (the notification icon at the top of every page).
- A push notification fires with a preview of the message.
- If they currently have that conversation open in the chat panel, the push is skipped: they will see the message as it lands. The bell row is added either way.
Direct messages (DMs) work a little differently
- The other person always gets a bell row and a push when you send them a DM, even without an @mention. The conversation is private to the two of you.
- The push intentionally does not show the message body. It says something like "Sam sent you a DM". That way a glance at a shared terminal does not leak the content. Open the conversation to read the actual message.
You cannot DM yourself: the staff picker only lists other active staff.
