When you build a purchase order or a return order, the product search shows only the parts that come from the vendor on the order. Pick Metra on the order and typing "dash kit" lists Metra's dash kits, not every dash kit in your catalog.

How it works

  1. Go to Point of Sale > Inventory > Purchase/Return Orders and click "+ New Order" (or open a draft order with Edit).
  2. Pick the vendor. A checkbox appears under the Product search, for example "Only Metra Electronics parts (2,114)". The number is how many of your products have that vendor.
  3. Type a product name or part number. While the box is ticked, the list shows only that vendor's parts.

Buying a part from someone else

If you buy the same part from more than one vendor or distributor, untick the box and the search covers your whole catalog again. You can also just type: when nothing from the vendor matches, the list says so and offers "Search all vendors", with how many parts match elsewhere. Clicking it unticks the box for you.

Your choice is remembered on that computer, so if you prefer to search everything, untick it once and it stays off until you tick it again.

Where a product's vendor comes from

It is the Vendor field on the product, under Vendor & Stock. Products added by a vendor price sheet import get that vendor automatically. To set the vendor on many products at once, filter the Products list, select them, and use Bulk edit with the Vendor field.

A product with no vendor, or with a different one, does not appear while the box is ticked. If a part you expect is missing, untick the box, or set the product's vendor.

Worth knowing

  • Scanning a barcode always finds the part, whatever its vendor, since the part is in your hand.
  • The checkbox only narrows the search. It never stops you from adding a part from another vendor to the order.
  • Restock Assistant and Fill to Free Freight already list only the order's vendor's parts, as before.
